No. It is of course out of the question to test everything on human volunteers : all these studies are done in very strict conditions, ruled among others by theHelsinki declaration and , the European directive of 4th April 2001 and its implementation in national law. In addition, each study must be subject to the agreement of a multidisciplinary ethical committee composed of doctors, lawyers and ethic specialists.
Nethertheless, risk zero doesn’t exist… even when you cross the street ! if a study present any risk, the researcher must inform you clearly and you will of course be allowed to refuse to take part the study or to withdraw from it. In addition, the laboratories will systematically examine the indication and contra-indication related to your participation in the study.
